Panaji: Pratapsingh Raoji Rane versus Vishwajit Pratapsingh Rane in Poriem turns into reality rather than fantasy.
Duo Ranes-Son – is now separated by the parties.
While Senior Rane has been a member of the loyal congress for 45 years and MLA for 50 years, Junior Rane was chosen on Congress tickets in 2017 but immediately resigned, contested with BJP tickets and won easily.
Should the father and child stick to their respective stands, it will be for the first time in the history of the cave election that the duo of the sons fought for the same constituency.
Both of them have never lost elections.
“If my supporters want me (to fight for the election of the state assembly in 2022), I cannot say no,” Senior Rane, legislator 10 times and minister five times, told toi on Tuesday.
“I am MLA sitting from Poriem.
If workers want that I have to compete, I can’t ignore it.
If they decide that I have a contest, I have.
All workers have come to me.
They want me the contest and I have decided to follow Contest.
“Junior Rane, Minister of Health, responded quickly.
“My father was wrong direction and I felt bad to make this statement, but I will compete against my father in Poriem on a BJP ticket,” said Junior Rane.
“He is my father and I respect him.
He is now 83 years old and has been cut off by youth.
For the past 20 years, I have treated his constituency.
Congress is not there.
I have chosen all Panch members and all of them with BJP.” In the past , Goa has seen a father-child duo contest for two different chairs on different party tickets – Joaquim Alemeo (Congress, Cuncolim) and Yuri Alemeo (NCP, Sanguem), in 2012 – but never in the same constituency.
Churchill Alemao (Navelim) and his daughter Valanda (Benaulim), in addition to Ravi rose (Ponda) and Son Ritesh (Marcaim) were all contested in the congressional ticket in the same year.
In 2012 and 2017, The Ranes opposed the congressional ticket from Poriem and Valpoi, won both seats.
“I feel, under pressure from the High Command Congress and local officials, he must have made that statement, but I don’t think he will compete.
After finishing 50 years in assembly and at the age of 83 (age), he must retire gracefully .
I have asked for it (for retirement), “said Junior Rane, who turned loyalty to BJP in 2017 and has now promised to win his father’s Poriem seat with a margin of 10,000 votes.
Senior Rane was replaced after members of the Poriem congress and his main support meeting with him at his residence in Karapur on Tuesday and urged him to oppose the upcoming election.
“Why is he (Vishwajit) leaving Valpoi, I don’t know.
I can’t advise it because he is an adult, and he belongs to BJP.
I don’t know the BJP game plan,” said Senior Rane, one of the two MLA Congress who has not resigned yet or switch loyalty.
He has completed 50 years as a member of the Goa legislature and has never faced an election defeat.
“This is not a father versus a child but competent versus more competent, which can handle Poriem problems.
This is not a problem between father and child, it is between BJP and Congress,” Vishwajit said.
He said the Congress would soon be removed from the country.
“I have to compete from the Poriem on a BJP ticket.
It will be a mess (to fight father), but I hope it will be resolved.
Let him fill in the nomination, I will also file mine.
There is no time to convince him how much 20 days left, “He said.
Vishwajit said his father would not be able to do anything for people as Congress did not have a position to form a government.
Then in a tweet, Vishwajit said, “Shri Pratapsingh Raoji Rane is my father and we will sort this problem peacefully.
Even though I have decided to do a contest from the Poriem constituency, we will finish this internally in the family.”
