New Delhi: Five Chess World Champion Viswanathan Anand has been defeated as a mentor of Indian players who want to break into the team for Asian matches in Hangzhou, China, where sports will return after the 12-year loose.
Indian Chess Federation India (AICF) is eyeing a rich medal about the players in the match, which is scheduled to be held from September 10 to September 25.
“Observing four gold medals at stake in the match, the legendary Anand Grandmaster took a different role and the team’s mentor and the first session between him and the players will start next Thursday,” AICF said in the release.
AICF hopes to improve Indian performance in Guangzhou Games 2010, where India won two bronze medals.
“All Indian chess federations began preparation well first by selecting 10 possibilities for each men and women.” The players have been chosen based on their international rankings.
The possibility for men includes, Vidit Gujarathi, P Sarin, K Sasikir, K Sasih, B Adhiban, Karthikeyan Murali, Arjun Irritis, Abhijeet Gupta and Surya Shekhar Ganguly.
The possibility of a women’s team consists of confusion Humpy, D Harika, Vaishali R, Tania Sachdev, Bhakti Kulkarni, Vantika Agrawal, Mary Ann Gomes, Soumya Swaminathan and Eesha Karavade.
The selection committee consisting of Abhijit Kunte, Dibeyandu Barua and Dinesh Sharma will decide on the last five players in April.
Chess shows in the game will begin on September 11 and will be played in two formats.
Individual events for men and women will be played in rapid time control from September 11 to 14 September while four event boards of the five members will be played under standard time control from September 16 to September 24.
