Vadodara: There are some rays of hope for the Wiswamitri river with the proposed project to ensure waste water does not enter.
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is looking for a project under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP).
VMC has proposed a river bank about 13 years ago.
But it has seen a little development so far.
Even the idea of taking the project with NRCP was contained five years ago.
In 2018, the state government had even been looking for businesses from VMC that if the project was taken under NRCP, the Civic body would pay its shares.
Under NRCP, 60% of project costs are provided by the center, 10% by the state government while the remaining 30% must be borne by the local body.
The proposal entered before the Permanent Committee VMC has revealed that the state government has asked VMC to prepare a proposal for NRCP.
The proposal must be directed through the state urban development department.
The current proposal will cover the stretch of Vadodara to ASOJ and ensure that waste does not enter the river.
It itself will cost around Rs 551crore.
The idea of the river bank has also been abandoned by VMC after it was challenged in the National Green Tribunal.
Then it was decided to prioritize the rejuvenation of the river.
Not only the nature of the work that must be done throughout the Vishwamitri, but the project nomenclature has also changed from time to time.
From the Riverfront Vishwamitri project, Vadodara Municipal Corporation changed the name of the project to the Wiswamitri River Awakening Project.
The name of the special purpose vehicle formed for handling the project is also changed from Vishwamitri Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd to Vishwamitri River Revival Corporation Ltd.
Late, this project is referred to as the only Wiswamitri project.
