Vadodara: Prateek Ashwin Shah, a teacher who is disrupted visually at Sojitra College, has so far been used to rely on limited literature available in Braille for his PhD study.
But now, Shah who pursues a doctorate in the Postgraduate Business Study Department, has begun to use special facilities that help him not only listen to books written in any language but also translate it using the internet – all thanks to the Bhaikaka Vallabh Vidyanagar library.
Sardar Patel University (SPU) installed a cuser from this library.
Special Facilities Screen Scanner – KIBO – has been available for students with disabilities in the library, the largest facilities at the Central Gujarat Central Education Center.
“With the help of this scanner, a student who is visually disturbed can listen to the book written in any language in the same language.
In addition, because this scanner is connected to Google Translate through the Internet, it is possible to translate books into English, Hindi , Gujarati, Marathi so students can understand the books written in any language in their own language, “Shishir Mandaliya said, the main librarian.
“There are limited documents or resources available in Braille and are too expensive to change our regular books to Braille.
This KIBO scanner provides a better option to read all regular books and turn it into audio forms,” Mandilya said.
“We want other students who are visual defects and defects in Anand and Keda regions to take advantage of this facility,” he said.
The library that has been named Bhaikaka, which has established SPU to meet the education needs of rural students, has a rich collection of 2.65 lakh books and reading materials.
More than 3,000 members sign up every year to take advantage of the facilities.
