Vadodara: “Baroda has done well in the white ball tournament but they have not been eligible for the knock-out of the Red Ball Tourney for the past few seasons.
I want to see them perform well at Trophy Ranji too,” said the former Cricketer Aussie DAV Whatmore Has joined the Cricket Baroda Association (BCA) as head coach and mentor.
“All cricket formats are important so the team must perform well in a longer version of the game too.
I already have a word with coaches all categories and first I want to focus on increasing mental strength of boys,” Whatmore told Tii.
Impressed with a fitness of a boys Baroda, what else said that mentally and physically very helpful in performance for a longer period of time.
Even though he refused to comment on the direct steps he wanted to take as head coach, what said that it had 30 to 35 players in the pool for too many senior teams.
“Someone can’t focus on so many players and hence a collection of possibilities must be reduced so that we can work on quality Cricketers.
But there is no decision taken on the number of players to be destroyed from the possibility of the pool,” he added.
He also suggested the association to start the T20 league himself before the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy.
“We might dig some talented Cricketers from Baroda Premier League,” he felt.
The 66-year-old former batsman, who played seven test matches for Australia, had extensive experience in training international teams such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Nepal.
He was the head coach of the Sri Lanka team who won the 50-Over World Cup in 1996.
BCA officials said that he would be an asset for their team.
Even though he was appointed as the head coach of the senior team, what else said he also wanted to keep the Junior Cricketers.
“They are our future will play for the state team.
I want to share my knowledge with the coach of the Junior Cricket Team too,” said Whatmore.
He was hired as head coach of Baroda’s team in April last year but what else could not join BCA due to restrictions on international travel amid Covid pandemic.
He then continued to join the Nepal Cricket team as their coach for one season.
