Adelaide: Dynamic Opener David Warner will play through the pain in the second ash test against England, Australia Captain Pat Cummins said on Wednesday, when Jhye Richardson got a nod to replace Josh Hazlewood.
Warner scored 94 in the first round on the opening test in Brisbane but did not specify or bat in the Australian second round as he cared for a bruise rib after being hit by an English attack.
The 35-year-old player complained at the Nets Oval Adelaide on Tuesday night and made some crying pains that were heard, but Cummins said he would play in the afternoon test starting on Thursday.
“He will be right, he has a bat yesterday and struggled with a little discomfort, but knew Davey he would not miss this one,” Cummins said.
“He will be fine so adrenaline kicks.” It’s one thing that hit the mesh and the other when you walk out and have a crowded crowd.
He played close to 90 tests and I’m sure many of them have been played in discomfort.
“The only change to the side that destroyed England with nine-goal at Gabba last week saw Richardson for Hazlewon, which was ruled earlier this week with side tensions.
Richardson has competed with Michael Neser and will add to the two tests, pioneered the attack with Cummins, Mitchell Starc And Nathan Lyon.
“There is only one change, Jhye will come to Josh,” Cummins said.
“We just thought Jhye shot and was really eager to see it out there.
“Josh is a big vacuum to be filled but we feel very confident that Jhye will step directly,” he added.
Hazlewood was a big loss, boasted a pink ball record of 32 goes only 19.90 and took 5-8 which was extraordinary when India was all out for only 36 in Adelaide in their second round a year ago.
Australia: Marcus Harris, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins (C), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Jhye Richardson
