Kolkata: The Country Election Commission is likely to reduce the assembly of people in a political meeting to 200 of 500, because Covid’s pandemic has affected 5 of the 17 observers after they tested positive.
On Wednesday, SEC asked the District Judge (DMS) of the four districts where the poll would be held on January 22 to implement Covid19 norms strictly and take serious steps under the Law on the Disaster Management and Western Bengal Epidemic Regulations Covid Regulations 19 2020.
The SEC has reduced the campaign period, by campaigning to close 72 hours before polling.
The campaign will be held between 8am and 9pm.
The Commission has received complaints that some candidates do not follow the Covid safety protocol such as wearing masks when they are campaigned.
This has pushed DTK to request DM to be strict in implementation and does not allow public demonstrations, which Officials Iterated Commission on Wednesday.
Political rallies with cars, motorbikes and bicycles are also strictly prohibited.
The SEC has prepared additional workers so that infected personnel can be replaced.
Five special observers – two for asansi, and one for Bidhannagar, Chandernagore and Siliguri – will be deployed.
The SEC held a meeting with senior officials on Wednesday to ensure a very easy security strategy for the Civic Polls January 22 to Bidhannagar, Chandernagore, Asansol and Siliguri.
The Commission asked DMS and police commissioners to submit details of security settings, and agreed to spread state troops in all polling booths.
It wants armed personnel in the booth.
Aasyi has most of the ward in 106 while Bidhannagar has 41.
Chandernagore has 33 wards and Siliguri 47.
