WASHINGTON: The US is very honest about his worries with Pakistan for a long time about safe havens terrorists along with the Afghan border area, the Pentagon has said.
Afghanistan and the US have criticized Pakistan in the past because it allows Taliban fighters to cross to Pakistan where they are provided safe and also receive medical treatment.
“We are very honest about our concerns with Pakistan for a long time, about safe havens on the border side along the spine.
And the concern is still valid today,” the Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby told reporters on Thursday at a press conference.
As neighboring Afghanistan, Pakistan certainly has equity and responsibility in connection with terrorism in the part of the world, Kirby said.
“We continue to have honest conversations with Pakistani leaders about our concerns,” he said in response to questions.
“I think it is important to continue to remind that Pakistanists, also, victims have been given by terrorist threats from those groups and along the same border,” he said.
While Kabul claimed that Islamabad sent thousands of militants to fight in a war-hit by a war and provide a safe place for the Taliban, Pakistan accused that the Afghan port, the anti-Pakistani Tehreek-e-Taliban group – and also the Secretary of Balochistan forces.
Kirby also told reporters that the United States was in his right to continue the drone strike in Afghanistan.
“We believe we have the authority we need to continue to protect the nation,” he said.
The Taliban accused the US violating a withdrawal agreement by continuing to fly drones above Afghanistan and warn Americans by doing it in the future.
“We have the authorities we need to continue to defend our interests and the security of the American people there and throughout the world, and we will do that,” said Kirby.
“Over-the-Horizon surgery does not always have to enter unmanned air assets, and they don’t.
That we use unmanned air assets clearly correct, and secretary (defense) quotes one which is only a week or two in Syria.
But over-the- Horizon does not have to mean unmanned.
It doesn’t even have to mean flights, “he said.
“Over-the-Horizon, as defined by the secretary, means that the assets of strike and target analysis come from abroad where surgery occurs, and we can do it in various ways,” he said.
