Geneva: World Health Organization (WHO) warned Tuesday, there might be a shortage of up to two billion syringes in 2022, which threatened to hamper the global vaccine efforts did not improve.

“We raise real concerns that we can have a lack of syringe immunization, which in turn will cause serious problems, such as slowing immunization efforts,” he told reporters.
“Depending on how the absorption of the vaccine is running, it can be a deficit from one billion to two billion.” More than 7.25 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been given globally, according to AFP calculations.
It almost doubled the number of routine vaccinations provided per year – and twice the number of syringes needed.
Hedman said one serious result of deficiency could delay routine vaccination, which could have public health impacts “for years to come” if the generation of young people loses the vaccination of normal childhood.

Hedman said there were obstacles to syringe supply can only be exacerbated by export restrictions and transportation problems.
