Noida / Ghaziabad: High-rise apartments that mushroomed in Noida have caused a proportional increase in demand for Ganga’s water supply.
At present, there is a request for more than 400 million liters per day (MLD) Ganga water for residents of almost 10 lakh, but the Noida Authority can only provide 240 months of river water and additional 90 bld normal water.
In neighboring Ghaziabad, a recent survey by Civic Corporation showed that against the daily request of 371 MLD, GMC only provided 264 MLD, which showed that nearly 24.8 Lakh residents faced 107 MLD daily shortcomings.
In the face of supply shortages, there has been excessive exploitation of groundwater in twin cities over the past few years.
According to KK Jain, Secretary General of the Federation of the Welfare Association of the Population Noida (Fonrwa), the umbrella body with 180 members of the City Rwas, ground water has run out to almost 150 feet below the surface in Noida, including around 4-5 thinning legs recorded over the past year.
“This is a year-of-year scenario.
It’s time for Ganga’s water supply to increase to handle the increasing request of Noida,” Jain said.
At present, the Noida Authority has begun working in the second phase (to supply 37.50 Air Cusec) of 50 Air Cusec Ganga projects and hope to complete it in 2022.
According to officials, from a total capacity of 50 cusecs, Ghaziabad will get only 25% share water.
“The remaining 75% of the shares (or 37.50 cusec) will be supplied to the parts of Noida and are expected to benefit the population of nearly 26 sectors, mostly along the noida barriers.
This project will cost Rs 228.14 Crore,” said an official .
In Ghaziabad, where Air Ganga was only included for the Vasundhara region, Indirapuram, Vaishali and Kaushambi, a resident-wise survey by the Civic Waters Department revealed that a total of 100 wards, there were 63 wards which were shaken under scarcity of water.
The lack of more than 107 MLD affects more than 3.5 lakh households, “Commissioner GMC Mahendra Singh Tanwar.
The biggest demand and supply gap is recorded in the 50 (9.71 MLD) and 93 (9.61 MLD).
To improve infrastructure Water, said Tanwar, substantial funds will be allocated under the 15th Finance Commission.
“In addition, we also concentrate on recycled water which with estimates will produce 40 MB of water,” added Tanwar.
Ganga Water Treatment Factory in Pratap Vihar , Currently, has two projects: 50 cusec factories and 100 cusec factories.
Project engineers at Plant Adwitiya Sharma said, “Factory 50 Cusec provides 120 MLD Ganga Water to Noida, GMC, Housing Board and Colony GDA.
While 100 cusec plants produce 245 MB of water, where noida gets 80% while GDA gets 15% and the colony managed by a housing board gets 5%.
