Goa: respected as artists on three continents – Asia, Africa and Europe – where he lives and works, this is unimaginable today that Vamona Ananta Sinai Navelcar almost refused a scholarship for the title of art in Portugal.
As a child, Navelcar will secretly continue the painting of a disagreement of his parents.
But after completing his school in 1950, his hopes of joining the Fine Arts program in Bombay (now Mumbai) were destroyed.
An economic blockade applied by India in the Goa-Portuguese colony which later became the reason.
Resigned to his fate, Navelcar took a small job at a mining company in Goa.
But destiny has other plans.
Portrait painted by Navelcar from the Governor of the Portuguese who were hung on the wall of the Mining Company Office in Shirgao happened to be seen by the subject of the artist itself.
Impressed with the skills of Navelcar, Governor General offered him the opportunity to learn art in Portugal.
But, having little knowledge about Portuguese, Navelcar is reluctant.
He refused to take a scholarship and did not go to Lisbon to join the course until he was almost forced out of Goa.
“I was told that the scholarship was given by the Prime Minister of Portugal and was forced to travel there.
When reaching Portugal, I realized that I should not only learn Portuguese, but also complement my higher middle education in language to be able to qualify to enter into Degree program, “said Navelcar Toi in 2016.
At the landing in Lisbon, he grew determined.
Navelcar completed higher secondary education on a schedule to join the Fine Arts Program.
As a result, not only goa or lisbon, but the world gets famous artists whose work adorns the walls of the museum, government offices and private collector houses from Mumbai and New Delhi to Lisbon, London, Stockholm, Helsinki, Stockholm, Helsinki, Macau, Tokyo and Madrid to mention a few.
But success has never been easy to navelcar.
Completing his title of art at Artes Escola Deendeen in Lisbon was only the beginning of his trial.
In 1960, when the tension above Goa was at height between India and Portugal, a colleague who was reported unfairly reported the pedestrian to the Portuguese authorities in Lisbon, alleged that the artist refused to sign the petition against the petition against Jawaharlal Nehru.
Navelcar found the scholarship suddenly withdrawn and, when he applied for a job as a teacher in Portugal, he was packed with Quelimane in Mozambique.
Finally, it was during his duty at Nampula that Navelcar began to enjoy his time in Mozambique.
He likes to teach mathematics, machine engineering and embroidery, regardless of painting.
But he unwittingly became a victim of political tensions again.
“After attending a tea party with my students, I was arrested, for the best known reasons with the authorities.
I serve 81 days as a prisoner in a solid piece of forest along with my 12 students.
We live in the least hygienic condition, but for Maintaining moral students high, I began teaching them geometry using coal and made them paint the structure wall in it that we slept, “he told Toi.
When the authorities were called by the artist, suspended the punishment and was recognized by him for artistic contributions, Navelcar refused to return without his disciples.
He continued to resolve the term prison in the process.
A little Navelcar realized at that time that he would lose today’s difficulty in Mozambique, when he was forced by political reasons to return to Goa against his wishes.
“I went through a dark period after returning to Goa, but I wasn’t pessimistic.
I live a dignified life and hope, “said Navelcar.
It was a decade after returning to Goa, in 1993, the Navelcar was finally released from the family obligation and continued painting again.
After continuing to paint from the moment until the last day at his ancestral home in Pomburpa, Navelcar came to believe the difficulties in his life helped his art.
“An artist who feels madness that has never teased for envelopes he is not an artist at all.
To conquering psychological sensitivity is to enlarge consciousness and so that it leads to the artist for the struggle and survives, “Navelcar will then streak in his notebook.
