Mangaluru: Dakshina District Police Kannada has arrested a woman for extortion and cheating in connection with the case of honey trap.
The defendant was Tanisha Raj, around 23 years old, from Bantwal Taluk.
He was arrested on July 2 and has been produced in front of the court.
Providing details about this case, Dakshina Kannada Police Inspector Rishikesh Sonawane said that about five months ago, Abdul Nasir’s complainant received the WhatsApp message that said “Hi”.
He responded by asking, “Who are you?”, In response, he received a message, “Sorry’s wrong number”.
Nearly 12 days after he received the first message, he received another “Hi”, where the complainant responded with “hi”.
He then called the number and a woman introduced himself in Hindi as Tanisha from Mangaluru.
Since then they are still related to the call and message WhatsApp.
The complainant told the police that on April 15, the defendant asked him to make a video call on WhatsApp.
After the conversation called ‘intimate’ video call, he blocked him on Whatsapp and stopped receiving his call.
On April 20, Abdul Nasir was called to a remote place.
When reaching there, he found a group of people including Sayyed Monu, Abdul Kunhi, Shafi, Nasir and Azhar.
They accused him of cheating the girl and threatened that they would release their chat videos with women on social media if he failed to pay Rs 30 lakh.
They then removed the conversation with the woman from her cellphone.
The complainants handed over Rs 25 Lakh and another RS ​​5 Lakh to the defendant, who threatened him not to tell the police.
A case was registered on June 30 below the IPC 384 section (extortion), 420 (cheating), 120 (b) criminal conspiracy, 506 (criminal intimidation) and section 66 of IT.
Police are looking for those accused of others in this case.
The complainants are targeted because it comes from a good family and working abroad, said SP, asking people to be careful when sharing social content on social media.
