Mangaluru: Work on a Multi-Level Car Parking Project (MLCP), planned at a busy hampankatta intersection here, has been completed.
Bhoomi Puja for work will be held soon, said Mayor Premanand Shetty.
He said that the project would be taken in PPP mode through a Mangaluru-based company, with an estimated cost of Rs 95 Crore.
“We will improve the date for Bhoomi Puja, based on the schedule for Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Because this is a PPP mode, there is no burden on the government, because it will be resolved by the concession holder according to conditions,” said Mayor.
MLCP facilities in Hampankatta, busy commercial hubs, are expected to reduce traffic and tribulations in the area.
It will be developed on an empty site from the old bus holder in the city, more than 1.55 hectares, he said, adding a project will be taken through Mangaluru Smart City Ltd (MSCL).
General Manager MSCL Arun Prabha said the facility would be built based on the design-finance-operate and transfer (DBFOT), in accordance with the holder of the concession to design, finance and operate it.
“Construction must be completed in 36 months.
After the work is completed, MLCP facilities can accommodate 400 vehicles.
Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has signed a concession holder for the project,” he added.
In fact, MLCP was originally planned to be carried out through Mangaloru Urban Development Authority (Young).
At the council meeting in 2014, MCC has decided to implement its own project (via PPP), but after Mangaluru City was chosen under the Mission of Smart City from the Central Government, the MLCP project was included in City Smart projects, the source said.
