Thiruvananthapuram: A 17-year-old boy was afraid to die after he lost at Backwaters Pozhiyor while swimming with friends on Wednesday night.
Moinudeen, Son of Sayed Ali from Labba House, Poovar, is a missing person.
Police and fire service personnel and rescue have launched a search for him in backwaters with the help of local swimmers.
Police Pozhiyori has registered a case of missing people in connection with the incident.
The police said Moinude was missing in the water at around 5:30 a.m.
on Wednesday.
He was with two friends Ashraf and Rashid.
Trio began to swim from backwaters banks on the side of Poovar and ran towards Pozhiyoor Sandbar Beach.
However, the three began to sink.
Local people who saw the incident rushed to the place and managed to save Rashid and Ashraf.
The police said there was a strong lower current in the backwaters.
Sandbar also went bankrupt because of strong water flow.
Pozhiyoor is a dangerous place where many sinking deaths are reported in the past.
