Kolkata: Eleven people were arrested near the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata ahead of the Indian T20 cricket match with New Zealand on Sundays for allegedly selling tickets, police said.
Sixty match tickets, sold at a higher level, confiscated from those who were arrested, they said.
Security in the stadium and the nearest area was increased to examine Unward’s incident, a senior police officer said.
More than 2,000 different Kolkata police unit personnel, including RAF and HRF were deployed.
Sleuth from the anti-rowdy squad was also posted near the stadium, he said.
Senior officials of the rank of Deputy Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners were also deployed at the nearest stadium and area, he added.
“Officers in simple clothes are also in various places around Gardens Eden.
We did not take risks and wanted to ensure that sports shows smoothly,” the officer said.
