Shiv Babu Chaurasia, whose family has sold Kanwar and other puja goods since the last four decades in Daraganj, told TII, “We must face massive financial losses this year since the country’s government has banned Yatra Kanwar.” He added, “I have bought Kanwar, his decorative items and other Puja articles worth Rs 3 Lakh from Varanasi-based traders, but traders now refuse to take back the material.” He further said that there were around 500 families in the districts who had been in the business of selling goods related to Yatra Kanwar since four-five decades, and they all faced economic losses over the past two years due to a pandemic.
“We used to get a profit of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 for each month of Shrawan by selling Kanwar, equipment various shapes and sizes to bring holy water, barrels, bells, and special kanwar dresses.
But this year and last year it was very difficult for us,” Chaurasia said.
With the moon awarry starting from July 25, there will be no Kanwariyas on Ghats and the worshipers will be seen only on local temples that offer prayers.
The worshipers who pray in the temple do not buy Kanwar Yatra’s relevant.
Rajesh, other Kanwar material sellers, said “The state government must also understand our complaints and problems, and offer US economic assistance.
