Leeds (United Kingdom): England Wicketkeeper-Batsman Jos Buttler will lose the fourth test next week against India in Oval because of the birth of his second child, the team management announced Sunday.
Jonny Bairstow, chosen purely as a batsman for English innings and a 76-run victory in the third test in Headingley finished on Saturday, will take over gloves when the series – all square in 1-1 – resumes in London on Thursday.
This will be the first time Bairstow, who has kept the goal in 48 of the 77 tests, will be behind the stump at this level in two years.
Kent’s Sam Billings had been called into troops 15 people as a cover, with the Pace-Bowling All-rounder Chris Woakes back from a heel injury.
“We want to hope Jos and his family are all the best for the birth of their second child who will come,” said England coach Chris Silverwood on Sunday.
“Unfortunately, he will lose this test, and we will see if he returns for the last test at Emirates Old Trafford.” Former British Paceman, is now responsible for the selection, adding: “Jonny Bairstow will take over the duty of the goal, which he greatens.” As we know, it has the skills to take over smoothly from Jos and the ability to score.
