Paris: France on Wednesday began to give booster shots from the Covid-19 vaccine to people over 65 and those who have a healthy health condition to support their vaccine protection, because the highly contagious Delta variant spread in the country.
People can get shots in a minimum six-month condition have passed since they are fully vaccinated with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
Those who received a single dose of Johnson & Johnson Jab could get a booster shot from Pfizer or Modernum at least four weeks after they were first vaccinated.
In nursing homes, the National Booster Campaign will begin on September 12.
About 18 million people are expected to qualify for booster shots, according to the Ministry of Health.
The French government attended the recommendation of the country’s health authority, which said last month that “the latest study showed a decrease in vaccine effectiveness, especially with Delta variants.” The elderly and people with the underlying health conditions are the most affected by a decrease in time, saying.
Booster’s shot was available in France for some vulnerable people, such as transplant recipients and others with a weakened immune system.
The French government has not made decisions regarding the potential extension of campaigns to all populations.
France has faced many infections that have been confirmed since July, with a slight decline in the past few weeks – from more than 23,000 per day around mid-August to 17,000 now.
But many are afraid of the opposite of the trend because children will return to school after summer vacation on Thursday.
Nearly 44 million people, or 65.6% of the French population were fully vaccinated.
France’s decision to launch its booster campaign came when the European medicine body said it would review the data to see if the booster shooting was needed.
In Germany, the authorities in Berlin, the capital, starting on Wednesday offer booster shots to residents of the elderly care home.
Some other German countries have begun to offer booster to vulnerable people.
Israel has expanded this week’s Shot Booster Coronavirus program to enter anyone over the 12th – the latest phase of the Booster program which began in July with Israel for 60.
US health officials announced planning to issue booster shots to all Americans.
This campaign is expected to begin at the end of September.
Head of European Branch of the World Health Organization, Dr.
Hanss Kluge, said this week he agreed with US infectious diseases, the third dose of the Coronavirus vaccine could help protect the most vulnerable people, and it should not be seen as a “luxury booster.”
