Chief Club Cricket Cricket Essex County John Farergher has resigned from his role on historical charges that he used racist language at the council meeting in 2017, the team said on Friday.
In a statement, they added Faragher “very denied” the incident but resigned after the council meeting on Thursday.
Essex said they would review why the incident was not entirely and independently investigated at the time and would consider further steps that must be taken.
“This is a club that is proud of zero policy tolerance to racism and all forms of discrimination and, such as the new executive chief Essex Cricket, I will not hesitate to uphold the principles and expel all forms of discrimination found,” said the executive said John Stephenson.
“I was aware of this single allegation on Thursday after joining the club four weeks ago.
The council met last night where Farerger’s resignation was accepted unanimously by the council.” Stephenson added that the club is committed to working with the British & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to eradicate discrimination of the game.
“This is an important first step, but the club must now act further,” he said, adding that they would review their internal reporting mechanism to ensure things handled “appropriately and immediately”.
The Farerger’s decision came a day after the fellow County Side Chief Executive Yorkshire Mark Arthur resigned in the latest Fallout of the allegations of institutional racism made by their former Azeem Rafiq player.
The club has been suspended from international hosting by the ECB after criticism of their failure to act on reports found Rafiq was the victim of “racial and intimidation harassment”.
Roger Hutton has resigned as Yorkshire’s chairman, accusing the club executives because he failed to learn from allegations of racism.
