Melbourne: Aaron Finch has come down from the Big Bash League captain (BBL) on the side of Melbourne Renegades but is determined to lead the defense of the Australian T20 World Cup title at home next year.
Finch’s Australia claimed their first global T20 title with a victory over New Zealand in the final in Dubai on Sunday and had less than a year to prepare for the next tournament which began in October 2022.
Finch, has knelt, has had a knee problem after surgery in the past few months but said he would hold on to the captain if it fits.
“If I can get there, of course,” said the short format captain told reporters on Thursday.
“I might need a little extra time to get my knees now.” I pushed rehabilitation very hard and might pay the price for it a little throughout the tournament.
“Renegades confirmed Finch had come down from the captain on Thursday, with NIC Maddinson to take over for the coming BBL season.
The Australian World Cup victory relieved pressure on the head coach Justin Langer followed the reports of disharmony in the dressing room on the recent tour.
