Haveri: A woman Gram Panchayat member, owned by the Nomadic Community (Duraggeruri), has become the head of the local body in Kaginele, who is’ Bhoomi ‘karma’ from Saint Kanakadasa in the Haveri district.
The GP President’s post was reserved for scheduled tribal women, and Guttevva Duramuragi (in PIC) from the chosen community in a round sound on Tuesday.
Guttevva was elected from number 4 Kaginele Ward with a 52 votes in the GP selection held in March.
Kagnele GP only has five families from the Duragamurugi community, who have lived on the outskirts of the village for the past 25 years.
Without permanent protection, they remain in the hut.
Recently, GP supplied them to drink water and electricity.
Guttevva, becomes the head of the GP, wants to provide a house, complete with basic facilities, downstairs.
He said: “Our elders have migrated from Vijayapura to Kaginele because of begging.
Even though we usually don’t stay in one place, Kaginele people are very generous and allow us to stay.
Ward people don’t.

PDO Vishwanath Kattegoudra said Guttevva, despite a illiterate person, had seen near the fate of the poor, especially those who did not have basic facilities.
“He has discussed many ideas with me related to the development of the GP.” The Duragamurugi community, one of the nomadic communities in North Karnataka, has asked for generations.
They brought with their idol Dewi Durgamma and played drums (or even beat themselves with hunters).
