Wicketkeeper-Batsman Sam Billings said he was “100% ready” to make his test debut if he got a nod to test the final ash against Australia in Hobart after being taken to British troops as the closure of Jos Buttler who was injured and Jonny Bairstow.
Billings, 30, recently in action for Guntur Sydney in the Twenty20 League competition Twenty20, and will be played in the English T20i series against West Indies after the Ashes series concluded.
Australia has maintained an URAK after winning the first three ash test.
The fifth and last match will be played at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart between January 14-18.
The fourth test in Sydney was withdrawn.
“I am 100% ready if needed, and I will give everything I can,” Billings told reporters on Monday.
“My game is in a good place.
It’s already in a longer format for the last three years for Kent.” I have played consistent cricket and scored.
That doesn’t matter what format it is, it’s more about rhythms, confidence and mindset.
“Like any side I go to I will try to make a positive impact and from the field, in any neighborhood I put.” Buttler, who will return to England ahead of the fifth test, suffered a blow to his left index finger, while Bairstow fought through the pain on the way to a hundred sandy after being hit by Pat Cummins.
Billings praised Buttler, Bairstow and Ben Stokes for their willingness to play through injury to the fourth test.
“Three people who came out for bats in Sydney with injury, was extraordinary courage,” Billings added.
“Exactly what people get involved in British cricket is about – playing for each other and that resilience.
There are many inspirations that we can take from it as a group, the corpse character.”
