There was anxiety in the British Women’s camp after their supporting staff members were tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the multi-format ash series in Australia, said Captain Heather Knight on Friday.
England will play three international twenty20 against Australia, starting from January 20 in Adelaide.
This will be followed by an independent test in Canberra from January 27-30 and three internationally one day from February 3-8.
Staff members who tested positively to isolate in Canberra while the rest of the group walked to Adelaide ahead of the first T20 match.
The next test will be carried out before the team flew to South Australia next week.
“We are ready for this,” Knight told reporters.
“I think it will be very naive to think we will not be affected by it (virus) but there are worries and anxiety from the group.” We have to live under the protocol that is quite tight since we arrived, we ‘I was only allowed to socialize outdoors because exactly this reason, to try and limit the spread.
“It will be nervous to 24-48 hours, but the PCR test we have done is back negative …
We have to be ‘safe’ for two weeks in the UK, from Christmas quite a lot, just to get out here.
This is a colossal effort.
“After successfully loading the previous virus in a pandemic, Australia had reported nearly one million cases over the past two weeks.
The knight said that the lead to the series had been “on average”, with the English team only allowed individual training for two weeks before arriving in Australia.
“As you can imagine, it’s already funny enough and it’s not an ideal preparation for this range of great but it really can’t be avoided,” he added.
