HUBBALLI: As monsoon is advancing, residents have stepped up pressure on HDMC to improve the condition of roads in the twin cities.
Potholes have appeared on most of the roads, exposing the substandard quality of work.
Potholes are also causing hindrance to smooth movement of traffic.
Many roads were dug up for various development works which got delayed due to lockdown.
People are blaming the officials and elected representatives for the poor condition of roads and are now urging for temporary patchwork.
The commercial areas, mainly Koppikar road, Coin road, JC Nagar road, Dajibanpeth, Janata Bazar road, Station road and other many roads are in bad shape and their condition has worsened in the rainy season.
Suresh Itnal, commissioner, HDMC, said that due to Covid-19, lockdown and other issues, road works got affected.
“I have asked officials in HDMC to take up road patchwork temporarily during rain and ensure hurdle free movement of the public.” He said he will write to the Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City, PWD and the National Highway authorities to take up road works in the city on priority.
Sanjay Solanke, social activist, said, “The condition of roads in the city is really bad.
Authorities are not ready to address our grievances.
No one wants to take the responsibility.
If we approach corporators, they tell us that they don’t have any power to solve the issue.
and if we approach elected representatives of the BJP they say Smart City works are under progress once works get over the condition of roads will improve.
If we approach Congress leaders they point fingers at the BJP.”
