Captain Stand-in Australia Alex Carey scored a half century goal and Pace Bowler Mitchell Starc took five names when they defeated West Indies in 133 running in the opening match of the rain from the international one-day series at Barbados on Tuesday.
Chasing Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) (DLS) adjusted 257 runs for victory after Australia scored 252-9 at 49 overs after three rain delays, the host experienced a collapse to fold for 123 with offers that offered resistance (56).
Starc did most of the damage to the visitors, who came to the contest in Bridgetown after being hammered 4-1 in their T20 series, with an extraordinary 5-48 which included Pollard’s goal which returned to the side after a hamstring problem.
Josh Hazlewood was also impressed with 3-11 of six overs because the visitors took 1-0 in the three-match series.
Carey, filling out for the usual captain of Aaron Finch who worsened the knee problem at Twenty20 last week between the team, won the throw and was chosen for bats because Australia made a steady beginning in Bridgetown.
Josh Philippe (39), Ben McDermott (28) and Mitchell Marsh (20) all got early but it was the captain the most made with 67 balls.
Along with Ashton Turner (49), he added 104 Run to the fifth goal before the team surrendered, with the foot of West Indies Hayden Walsh picked up his first five-goal in the room of 16 deserts.
“I think the goal might have played a little differently from what it did.
But for us to adapt and give a score on the board, but then for powerplay to go as it does for us is fantastic,” Carey said.
“Ashton plays an important role.
I might sail a little and he continued, he took pressure.” Pollard said he was impressed with his bowler despite defeat.
“The par score here is around 260-270.
Able to limit them up to around 250-strange I think is a fantastic effort by Bowler,” Pollard said.
“If I’m honest, I think we gave around 20-25 walking in the field with some freebies.”
