Sydney: Australian women’s cricketers will get a salary increase this year, said Administrator, admitting that wages will still fall short of men’s games.
Retainers for the Best Best League players will increase by around 14 percent, said Cricket Australia, and the players in the domestic cricket league will see a 22 percent increase.
Australia Captain Meg Lanning said it was justification.
“When you invest correctly in women’s sports, the results follow and everyone gets benefits – games, fans, and the players,” he said.
The Australian Cricket CEO Nick Hockley said the increase had stepped forward.
But he admitted that “there are still gaps, there are still very large gaps, compared to their male colleagues”.
In total, the new package is worth $ 1.2 million (US $ 880,000).
The average retainer for men who play all formats said around $ 200,000 per person does not include salaries.
“We want to try to make it a very interesting and credible professional career for our women’s cricketers who are on the rise,” Hockley said.
Disputes about the same payment have become focused in several sports.
But it has become a high-profile dispute and bitter in the United States football, where women’s games are very popular.
The United States Football Federation last month said it had offered “identical” contracts to the men’s national team and women as part of an effort to end the dispute.
The grand slam tennis is among sports which now offers the same gift money for men and women.
