Dharwad: The district government has decided to rank banks every month based on their services after the Deputy Commissioner takes a serious view of alleged indifference by them in providing the benefits of the central government scheme to people.
Deputy Commissioner, Nitesh Patil has monitored the performance of government and private banks in providing facilities based on applications.
Virtual Meeting Virtual Meeting of the District Bank Brief Committee here on Wednesday, Patil said private banks did not work with administration in implementing the central government project and delaying facilities.
He specifically mentions the failure of the bank in providing funds for housing schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana.
“Applicants complain that they are harassed by banks that delay the release of funds on one or other pretusions.
The bankers must be introspected and work with honesty and sincerity to implement the government scheme,” said Patil to bankers.
He said the delay by the banks forced people who need to borrow from MoneyLender.
Patil asked bankers to be friendly people.
He said the district government had received complaints that banks adjust the amount credited to the recipient’s account to work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREG), for plant insurance and compensation for loss of plants.
Patil said that the bank must stop doing this according to the direction of the Reserve Bank of India.
He warned that the action would be taken against the bank if the administration received one complaint
