MUMBAI: The BCCI has accepted Mumbai left-arm spinner Ankeet Chavan’s request that he’s permitted to play expert cricket because Board Ombudsman DK Jain has decreased his lifetime ban to seven decades.
Chavan, together with his subsequently Rajasthan Royals teammates S Sreesanth along with Ajit Chandila has been banned for life from the Board at 2013 due to his alleged participation in the IPL spot-fixing scandal.
But, Sreesanth’s ban has been lifted last year from the BCCI, after which he performed this season in cricket.
Back in September 2020, Chavan had transferred the Bombay High Court from the BCCI’s ban.
On March 3, 2021, the Bombay High court referred the issue to this BCCI Ombudsman.
At an official communication (TOI includes a backup ) on Chavan on Tuesday, BCCI interim CEO Hemang Amin wrote:”Dear Mr Chavan, in accordance with the instructions of the Hon’ble Bombay High Court, your representation for alteration of the BCCI arrangement, imposing a lifetime ban you had been put prior to the Ld.
Ombudsman of BCCI.
“The Ld.
Ombudsman, has limited the ban imposed to you from existence prohibit to 7 decades, with effect from 13 September 2013.
In light of this arrangement dated 3 May 2021, the ban imposed on you thus finished on 13 September, 2020.” “Now I’ve received an official communication in the BCCI in this respect, I am quite looking forward to restart playing cricket after the pandemic subsides along with the authorities eases rules out.
I need to have about the cricket ground whenever possible.
I am absolutely alleviated.
Everybody in my family is breathing a sigh of relief.
This chapter has come to a conclusion.
I just need to begin with my team and business cricket,” Chavan told TOI.
“I am grateful for your BCCI and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for being endorsed me, and that I expect to get their backing later on also.
I’ll finally have to inform the MCA my ban was reduced and that I could be looked at for the coming year,” he further added.
Though he is 35 today, Chavan believes he could make it back to the Mumbai team.
“I am hoping I will play Mumbai again.
See, I am a twist bowling all-rounder.
I am able to play cricket for the next five-seven decades for Mumbai.
I am keeping myself healthy.
I am excited about the coming season.
I am optimistic that based upon my operation, the MCA will consider me at the probables,” Chavan stated.
Chavan had lately written into the MCA, asking it to inquire the BCCI to assist him about the subject, however the institution made it very clear it was an issue between the player and the Board.
