There has been no U-19 cricket since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in March 2020.
Toi has learned that BCCI is working on the host of the tournament where the council will involve two teams and invited U-19 champions who ruled Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The U-19 World Cup is scheduled to be played in West Indies in January-February next year.
BCCI is scheduled to start the first U-19 domestic day tournament with the VINOO MANKAD trophy in the third week of September, which will be followed by the challenger trophy to avoid players for the World Cup.
“The council usually regulates several U-19 series – both at home and abroad – to prepare for the U-19 cricketers for the World Cup.
Pandemi has hampered the normal process.
It is important for young people to have international experience,” an official on BCCI told Toi.
NCA Head (Cricket) Rahul Dravid likes to give players a lot of opportunities before trimming the player list.
This time, however, there will be only two domestic tournaments.
“This is why the council thinks to deploy two teams.
Bangladesh is a formidable opposition to the U-19 cricket.
The tournament assistance will test the players,” the official added.
The Board has not announced the names of national junior voters.
The committee is expected to be decided in September the first week.
Meanwhile, the State Association protracted to complete their U-19 team.
Everything is in the trial stage.
The team had to undergo quarantine seven days before the Vinoo Mankad Cup.
