Returns Ben Stokes to England for a tour of ash will give them a better chance to win in Australia but all round will take time to rediscover the best form, said Captain Joe Root.
Stokes has taken an unlimited break from cricket in July to focus on his mental health, while also recovering from the second operation on the broken finger, and not included in the initial squad coach Chris Silverwood for the series.
But British cricket board and Wales said last month that Stokes would be available for the five test series, which will begin on December 8 in Brisbane.
Read the talisman Ben Stokes ‘excited’ over the tour of the ash to Australiaben Stokes said he was excited on the prospect overlooking Australia in ash when he prepared to return after a long break to focus on his mental health.
“Obviously, this is great news,” Root said on Tuesday.
“Talk to anyone in the game, whether they prefer to have Ben on their team or not, and everyone will say they will do it.” Even though we all know what Ben is able to do, we still manage expectations.
He had long come out of the match, he suffered a serious injury and he had a lot of work to do back to Ben Stokes we all knew.
“But if there is one thing we can put with Ben that he will do everything he can to sweep himself and then show the show that helps England win the cricket match.” Australia defended ash in 2019 after the series ended in lottery 2-2.
