Dharwad: Decision of the State Cabinet for Bifurcate Dharwad Milk Union (DMU) by creating a separate Milk Union for Haveri Regency will lead to lack of milk in Dharwad, Gadag and North Kannada District.
DMU includes Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag and Uttara Kannada and most of the milk comes from Haveri.
It is feared that the separator of Haveri from DMU and created the New Milk Haveri Union (HMU) will hit Dharwad badly.
The bifurcation process will begin now and HMU will function from December 2022.
It has worked to set up a high pressure pasteurization unit (UHP) which is very high at the cost of Rs 99 Crore has begun in Haveri.
DMU, founded in 1984, has 12 directors with each district that sent three directors.
With the creation of the new Milk Haveri Union, the number of directors in DMU will drop to nine while Haveri will have a new president, three directors and one direct managing director with the office and new staff.
It is possible that additional staff from DMU will shift to Haveri’s milk.
DMu gets 2.75 latric liters of milk every day of the four districts and Haveri contributed 1.75 latris.
The sale of daily milk from DMU is a liter of Lakh which is around 10,000 liters for sale in the Haveri district.
When the new Milk Haveri Union became functional, DMU will face lack of milk as far as 1.75 latris per day.
Meanwhile, the Union of Milk Haveri must increase sales in Haveri Regency to remain economically feasible.
President Dmu Shankar Mugad said the idea of BiFurcating DMU and created HMU is not new and work has begun.
DMU will continue to get 1.75 latric liters of milk every day until the end of December 2022, he said.
