Melbourne: The former New Zealand All-roader Chris Cairns is beyond life and recovery at the hospital after an emergency operation in Sydney due to heart problems, his lawyer said on Friday.
“I am happy to suggest that Chris lose support and have been able to communicate with his family from the hospital in Sydney,” said Aaron Lloyd in a statement.
“He and his family are grateful for all the support and expectations of both everyone, and for the privacy they have been given.
They requested that this continue because they focused on the recovery moving forward.” Cairns, 51, underwent surgery in Canberra after “the main medical event” earlier this month but the seriousness of his condition required him to be transferred to St Vincent for other operations.
New Zealand media reported Cairns had suffered aortic dissection – tears in the body’s main arteries.
Cairns played 62 tests, 215 internationally one day and two matches twenty20 for New Zealand between 1989-2006.
The Father Lance also plays Cricket for New Zealand.
Cairns have lived in Canberra with their wives and children for several years.
