Sydney: Australia’s short format captain Aaron Finch was on track to lead the Twenty20 World Cup in October and November after undergoing surgery on his right knee, the Australian Cricket said on Friday.
The 34-year-old appetizer sustained a knee injury at St Lucia last month on a short tour of the West Indies format and was flown to the house to undergo surgery after undergoing 14 quarantine days.
The Australian Cricket said the operation to repair damaged cartilage occurred in Melbourne on Thursday and that with the expected recovery period from eight to 10 weeks, Finch must be available for the start of the T20 World Cup.
The seventh T20 World Cup has been moved from India because of the Covid-19 pandemic and will take place in the United Arab Emirates and Oman for a month from October 17.
Alex Carey took over as captain for the rest of the West Indies on Matthew Wade assumed the coat for the next T20 series in Bangladesh, who was missing in Australia 4-1.
Australia has never won the T20 World Cup with their best runner-up settlement in the 2010 edition in West Indies, when they lost to England in the final.
