St.
John’s (Antigua): Batting Great Desmond Haynes has been defeated as the main voter for the West Indies cricket team.
The 65-year-old former opening replaces Roger Harper and will be responsible until June 2024, a period that includes two T20 World Cups, the final of the ODI World Test Championship.
“Being a voter is a selfless task, but an important role in our cricket system and I feel honored to be appointed,” said Haynes in a statement issued by Cricket West India (CWI).
“I always indicate that I will help West Indies cricket still possible and I see this as an opportunity to do that.
I promise to carry out my duties in a fair and professional way.” Haynes scored 7487 running in 116 tests and played 238 odi for West Indies between 1978 and 1994, where he won the 1979 World Cup and also tested the team in four tests.
“The knowledge and experience of his cricket is second to none, and I am sure that Desmond is the right person for the right job, at the right time,” said the President of CWI, said Ricky Skerritt.
“On behalf of the board of directors and all stakeholders, I hope every success when he starts his main role, which will begin soon.” I want to also take this opportunity to thank Roger Harper and Miles Bascombe for their temporary commitment and integrity.
They served in the panel for the past two years.
