LONDON: Former English Fast Medium Bowler Mike Hendrick has died 72, the Derbyshire County was announced on Tuesday.
He suffered from colon and liver cancer for some time.
In an article in Times published earlier this month to coincide with the 40-year anniversary of the 1981 Abu England series win to Australia, Hendrick told Mike Atherton – himself a former England captain – that he was “in the departure lounge but the flight had not yet remained”.
Hendrick only played two tests in the series but was more involved in the success of Ashes 1977 and 1978/9.
Famous for its accuracy, Hendrick took 87 goals in 30 tests of an average of 25.83 from 1974 to 1981 when he faced competition for the English place from John Snow, Bob Willis, Chris Old, John Lever and Graham Dilly in a proud attack of everyone Older than Tony Greig and Ian Botham caliber.
For Derbyshire, Hendrick took 497 first-class goal at 20.05.
