Vadodara: Queen Cleopatra Egypt said to sleep surrounded by mosquito nets.
The Romans used a mixture of vinegar while Mississipian looked at the beauty beauty plants to protect themselves from mosquito bites.
At this time, DEET (N, N-DIETHYL-M-TOULAMIDE) is widely used as a mosquito drug.
However, mosquito-transmitted diseases have time and re-lift their ugly heads.
When the dengue fever and chikungunya are going up throughout the country, researchers at University M have found chemical compounds that have superior mosquito properties compared to existing commercial products.
These compounds are far more toxic to the human body compared to traditional ones that have its own side effects.
In fact, they even got a patent for this compound named Lactol.
Interestingly, Lactol is an accidental discovery when studying plants that animals rub their skin to keep insects away.
“Strange Lactol structure creates curiosity in our minds.
The structural resemblance with Nepetalic Acid, which is a natural product present in catnip oil,” Professor Pradeep Deota from the Applied Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Technology and MSU Engineering.
Interestingly, cats like catnip because they protect them from mosquitoes.
Nepetalactone, Essential Oil in the catnip that gives the characteristics of the characteristics, about 10 times more effective in mosquitoes deactivating rather than DEET – compounds used in most commercial insect repellents.
“DEET which is the most widely used mosquito drug has a few toxicity and causes side effects such as seizures,” he said.
Deota and PhD Gautam Patel has prepared a series of Chemical Chemical Compounds (Formula-II) and their derivatives (Formula-i) who have superior mosquito activities compared to existing commercial products.
Nepetalic acid and related natural products have anti-insect properties.
“Nepetalactones and Nepetalactol drive some insect causes of disease.
For example, Nepetalactols can expel Aedes Albopictus (Asian tiger mosquitoes or forest mosquitoes).
Felidae (cat) is usually hunting for other animals by stalking it.
It requires silent or slow movements, which allows insects to bite cats with It’s easier.
But cats make insects go by licking or rubbing their feathers with plants containing Nepetalacttones, “he said.
“The compound developed by us has a much lower cytotoxicity (toxicity for humans) due to existing commercial products such as pyrethroid, organochrin and organofosforus compounds,” he said.
The researchers evaluated mosquito activities from these compounds on Anopheles culik.
“All compounds show excellent mosquito repellent activities.
Furthermore all of these compounds when tested with their cytotoxicity on the lines of human lung cells are found far more toxic to the human body than existing,” he said.
