Dubai: CEO of International CEO Cricket (ICC) Manu Sawney on Thursday resigned from his position, four months after “abrasive behavior” was thought to be under the scanner during an internal investigation, pushing the world’s body to make it on leave.
“…
The Chief Executive Manu Sawhney will leave the organization with a direct effect.
Geoff Allardice will continue as an acting CEO supported by a leadership team that works with the ICC Council,” said the body of the world in a statement.
Sawney was sent on “Go” in March waiting for an investigation after he was supervised for “abrasive behavior” with colleagues.
Sawhney has mentioned the inspection of the body that regulates it as “hunting premeditation wizard”.
It can be understood that Sawhney, who replaced Dave Richardson after the ICC World Cup in 2019 for a term of office up to 2022, not yet in the best requirements with several influential cricket councils in connection with various policy decisions.
The 56-year-old was under pressure since the election process for the new leader moved last year, which ended with Greg Barclay took the position in November.
Allegedly that the “authoritarian function style” sawhney was far from the inclusive approach taken by Richardson and had not dropped well with employees.
Also, some cricket boards seemed unhappy with him to support the chairman of Imran Khawaja during last year’s election.
The second reason why some larger councils were upset was their support for the recent Acnkes decision to bid and pay fees for hosting events during the next cycle.
It can be understood that BCCI, England and the Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Australian Cricket fully opposed the idea and had made their displeasure at various council meetings.
Sawhney is the former CEO of Singapore Sports Hub and also serves as the Managing Director of ESPN Star Sports, a company working with him for 17 years.
He is also a non-executive director and member of the Manchester United Ltd Audit Committee.
