Dubai: Former performance analyst Sri Lanka Sanath Jayasundara was given a ban on seven years on Monday for violating the ICC anti-corruption code.
“Sanath Jagaasundara, a former performance analyst at Sri Lanka Cricket, has been banned from all the crickets for seven years after the Anti-Corruption Court ICC found he guilty of violating the ICC’s anti-corruption code.” The ban was put to sleep until May 11, 2019., when he was temporarily suspended, “said the International Cricket Council (ICC) in a statement.
The court found JadaSundara guilty of two counts.” Article 2.1.3 – Offers bribes or other prizes to the Minister of Sports Sri Lanka to kettle in any way or vice versa affect the results, progress, behavior or other aspects of international matches.
“Article 2.4.7 – Increasing or delaying ACU’s investigation into the possibility of corrupt behavior under the ICC’s anti-corruption code,” the statement was added.
Alex Marshall, ICC General Manager – Integrity Unit, said the actions of Jayasundara were disappointing.
“Jayasundara’s efforts to bribe ministers are a great violation while attempts to cover their tracks and lack of regret is very disappointing.” We will not tolerate corrupt behavior in our sports and my team will stop in preventing these behaviors.
This prohibition must function as a deterrent for anyone who might be tempted along the wrong path, “he said.
Jayasundra was charged by the ICC in May 2019 when he was temporarily suspended.
