New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) will give a 12-point award for every Won match during the second world test cycle that began with the five matches between India and England in August.
The team will get six points if there is a tie and four points if the match ends in a draw.
That there will be a change in the first point system stated by the ICC Interim CEO of Geoff Alardice during media interactions earlier this month.
“Instead of each series that is worth the same number of points, 120, regardless of whether this series is played more than two tests or five tests, the next cycle will see every match worth the same number of points – a maximum of 12 per match,” Members of the ICC Board Tell PTI.
“The team will be ranked a percentage point available that they won from the match they have played.” System change points must be ratified by the ICC executive chief committee in the coming weeks.
“The aim is to try and simplify the point system and to allow the team significantly compared to tables anytime, even though they might have played a different number of matches and series,” added board members.
Apart from the Indian-British series, this year will be the only other five matches in the second cycle which will expire in June 2023.
Australia’s tour in India next year is the only four-test series in the upcoming cycle.
Nine test teams will play a total of six series: three houses and three remotely like the previous edition.
In the first edition, which was won by New Zealand after defeating India in the final earlier this month, the ICC has changed the qualification criteria for the world test championship from the maximum point obtained to the percentage point obtained from the match that is treated because many series are scheduled to be canceled into Covid-19 , During the last cycle, the value for each series was 120 points where the Indian-Bangladesh series two matches had 60 points for victory while the Indian-Australia test series which four matches have 30 points in victory.
“The British will play the most test (21) at WTC-2 followed by India (19), Australia (18) and South Africa (15).
The winner of the New Zealand WTC will only play 13 matches, similar to West Indies and Sri Lanka, But one is less than Pakistan (14), “reported ‘EspnCricInfo’.
