Mumbai: Covid continues to ride cricket.
Only a few hours before it was scheduled to begin, the second international T20 between India and Sri Lanka at the Premadasa Stadium R in Colombo on Tuesday was postponed 24 hours after India AllRounder Krunal Pandya was tested positive for Covid-19.
The remaining two T20i from the series will now be played on Wednesday and Thursday.
It was decided to continue the series only after the RT-PCR results from all Indian teams, except Krunal, returned negative on Tuesday night.
Apparently, the crunal was tested positive for Covid-19 after the antigen test was quickly done ahead of Tuesday’s match.
The player is sent to isolation and the RPCR test is called.
More worrying India is the fact that, according to sources, the BCCI medical team in Colombo has identified Prithvi Shaw Batsmen and YADAV Suryakumar among the eight players who have been identified as close contact with Krunal.
Shaw and Yadav on Monday are referred to as a substitute for flying from Colombo to England, to join the Indian team preparing for five test matches against England.
Apart from Shaw and Yadav, five other players who were considered close contact Kronal was his brother and hardik pandya allrounder, Wicketkeeper-Batsman Ishan Kishan, the opening of Devdutt Padikkal and Off-Spinner Krishnappa Gowtham.
The identity of the eighth player has not been confirmed.
Eight players were isolated on Tuesday.
While Shaw and Yadav are arranged to play two T20IS left in Colombo, it is clear that they will not be able to fly to England in the near future.

The news came only four days after West Indies, Australia in Bridgetown, Barbados was postponed because Members of the Contingent Testing Positive.
This is the second time the virus has affected the Indian tour in Sri Lanka.
Previously, a limited tour was postponed by four days because of several Covid cases in the Sri Lankan camp.
The Indian team in the UK was also beaten by a virus as Srishabh Pant and a Down-Down Dairand Garana specialist tested positive for Covid.
