Leeds (United Kingdom): Joe Root matches the British record for most centuries in a calendar year when he compiled hundreds of years 2021, against India in Headingley on Thursday.
Only Denis Compton (1947) and Michael Vaughan (2002) previously scored many hundreds of tests in the calendar year for England.
Root completed the third one hundred in as many matches as possible on the second day of the third test at Yorkshire’s house when he cut Sharma Ishant through the middle of twice 124 balls faced.
He finally came out for 121 when he was detained by Jasprit Bumrah.
These innings followed 109 in the first test damaged by rain in Trent Bridge and 180 it did not come out during a 151-run victory in India in God who put tourists 1-0 in the five-match series.
But with India was dismissed only at 78 in their first round on Wednesday, the 23-root test was hundreds – the only cooking Alastair with 33 had made more for England – looking at the host who led 345 walking.
Root was made 228 and 186 in two separate tests against Sri Lanka in Galle in January before preparing advanced 218 against India in Chennai in the following month.
And with two more matches that will come in the ongoing Indian series, and with three ashes meetings in Australia scheduled before the end of 2021, the root of the England captain can break through the recording of all time from nine tests of hundreds in the calendar year set by Mohammed Pakistan.
