Beleagavi: Veteran politician and former Minister of Union RL Jalappa died on Friday at his Medical Medical College medical hospital in Kolar, where he was treated for many organ problems.
He is 97 years old.
His son and former Mla J Narasimhaswamy said Jalappa was hospitalized on December 10 because he suffered from kidney disease and lungs.
He suffered paralytic stroke in February.
Known as loyalists from CM D Devaraj Urs, Jalappa began his career in the 1970s and followed Urs when he stopped Congress to form the Indian National Congress (U).
After the death of Urs in 1982, he held hands with S Bangarappa and played a role in launching the regional party Kranti Ranga.
He played an important role in building the first non-Congress political entity in 1983 when the Janata party, in the Alliance with Kranti Ranga and BJP, formed a coalition and Ramakrishna Hegde government became the main minister.
Derived from the Idiga community, Jalappa was identified as a community crusaders to the back.
He received a government permit to establish a Devaraj Urs Medical College for the benefits of the community.
Jalappa was in the eyes of the storm when he was named after a murder case of a 1988 lawyer who was famous in Abdul Rashid.
He was released in this issue while two police officers were punished.
