MySuru: Kokkare Bellur in Maddur Taluk from the Mandya District, on the banks of the Shimsha River is famous for its pelikan of migrating spots and other nesting species.
The Ministry of Forestry plans to sign the tag of solar-powered Patagia GPS-GSM in two pelicans to understand their lives better.
The department has also begun to instill wing tags for migration birds that are raised by hand and rehabilitated.
According to the proposal, two places of spots will be marked by tags of solar-powered Patagia GPS-GSM to track their movements in this wedding season (October 2021).
GSM tags will help officials get bird coordinates at any time.
This will reveal from which pelican originates, their non-breeding reasons, and their important cultivation reasons.
“This initiative will help us understand the pelican life that is billed in a better way.
Details like why they come here, where they come, their diet and habits can be understood,” said DCF (Circle MySuru) K C Prashanth Kumar.
“Tagging will help us complete the mystery behind the migration of these birds.
We get the details of their migration habits, routes, and other details.
Initially, two birds will be marked,” he said.
The officer said six birds, were rehabilitated, had been implanted with wing tags.
“This wing tag is implanted in the birds rehabilitated through giving hands,” he said.
Tanuja Rao, an avid birder, said this research was very much needed.
Authorities said on March 202, four pelican chicks were patagigial numbers marked by K01, K02, K03 and K04 codes.
In April 2021, two stork girls were painted with alphanumeric code.
