BELAGAVI: Due to lockdown, the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation in Belagavi has suffered Rs 45 crore losses.
Buses stayed off the roads for 54 days during the second wave and services are gradually resuming.
The department is hoping to make some revenue going ahead.
From Belagavi buses have started operations to Dharwad, Hubballi, Ramadurga, Gokak, Bailhongal, Nippani, Khanapur, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi and other districts except Mysuru.
Buses are operated with 50% passenger occupancy.
Already burdenedThis year’s drop in revenue is in addition to the losses suffered last year during the first wave.
The corporation is already under burden but is still committed to provide service, said NWKRTC officials.
Covid negative report is mandatory for the staff and passengers are not allowed to board the buses without wearing masks.
Belagavi district controller Mahadevappa Munji said, “We have suffered losses to the tune of Rs 45 crore.
Currently, the number of passengers is less.
As days progress we expect the numbers to increase.
All the buses are sanitised everyday to ensure safe travelling.”
