New Delhi: Nineteen years ago today, Sourave Ganguly-LED Side India said one of his most memorable victories when the visitors beat England with two Wickets to win the final Natwest Trophy.
Zaheer Khan crashed into a victory and Ganguly captain took his shirt at the Ground Ground Cricket Lord to celebrate victory in style.
In the final Natwest against England in Lord’s in 2002, India set a target of 326 to win the match.
India was shaken on 146/5 when Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif gathered in folds.
The young duo puts a 121 partnership running to give India a glimmer of hope in pursuit after visitors lose its mainstay.
Yuvraj came out after scoring 69, but Kaif fought tailers to help India register a thrilling victory in the final by two goals and with three spare balls.
Kaif remains unbeaten at 87 out of 75 balls.
The control board for cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday shared the moment of victory from Clash Epic.
“#OtyHyDay in 2002 Pushpin Lord’s, London.
A few moments to remember for #Teamindia as a unit of LED @ SGANGuly 90 defeat England to win the Natwest series final,” BCCI Tweeted.
The efforts of Yuvraj and Kaif are still viewed as special as India lost all the key’s goal.
Sehwag Ganguly and Virender have given a good start to the side, but England made a comeback to reduce India on 146/5 when Ashley Giles dismissed Sachin Tendulkar on the 24th.
The blue people lost Dravid’s goal, Tendulkar and Mongia cheaply.
The first batting, England had run away and ended at 325/5, which was considered at that time it was an impossible target to pursue.
Marcus Trescothick and Nasser Hussain have registered for centuries for the host.
