Pakistan-Afghanistan ODI series is postponed until next year

The International Day series (ODI) between Pakistan and Afghanistan, scheduled for next month in Sri Lanka, has been postponed by 2022 after the Taliban takeover.
The two countries will play three ODI matches in early September in Sri Lanka, but the Pakistani cricket board (PCB) said at the end of Monday that the Afghan cricket council asked the series to be postponed.
“PCB has received ACB requests to postpone the ODI series next month because of the mental health problems of players, interference in flight operations in Kabul, lack of broadcast facilities and increased Covid-19 cases in Sri Lanka,” PCB Tweet.
“The two boards will try to reschedule the series in 2022.” With commercial flights from Kabul airport have not continued, media reports say the Afghan team has been looking to travel to Pakistan through the highway and fly to Colombo through Dubai.
But the logistics challenge increased after Sri Lanka last week announced 10 days locking to curb the spread of Covid-19, because it surged infection and death beyond the island health system.
Taliban said they would not disturb the cricket of men in the country, the greatest sports success in Afghanistan over the past few years.
The fate of women’s programs, however, is still unclear.
