Melbourne: Batting Legend Ricky Ponting has supported Australian players to appear in the scheduled Indian Premier League (IPL) in the UAE, said it would be the ideal preparation in front of the T20 World Cup in October.
The IPL will extort 76 remaining matches between September 19 and October 15 while the T20 World Cup will be held after it starting October 17 to November 14.
Both tournaments will be held in the UAE.
“People who haven’t played for three or four months now, they need to go back to the flow of high-quality cricket plays against the best players in the world,” Ponting said quoted by Cricket.com.au as telling Australia Test Captain Team Paine in the radio conversation Sen.
“No doubt their best preparation is in the right conditions, playing in maybe the strongest domestic T20 tournament in the world,” said Ponting, who will go to Dubai as head coach IPL Side Delhi Cottals.
Fast Bowler Pat Cummins, who missed West Indies and Bangladesh’s tour to spend time with his pregnant fiance, is not expected to return to the IPL, with his first child due in the midst of the scheduled tournament.
“For the second half of the season, it would be very difficult to go there,” Cummins said at Vlog on the Youtube channel.
“We will see how it plays but at this stage it might be a little too difficult, but with a consecutive World Cup after that, I hope it can be good to do it.” Australia Captain Aaron Finch this week underwent surgery in his right knee to repair the damage to the cartilage he suffered in West Indies.
While the operation was successful, he faced a 10-week recovery period, which would make him absent until the Australian opening match from the Super World Cup 12.
Finch previously said he believed that returning to the IPL would be “difficult to justify” for the players who have missed the winter tour which quotes fatigue and victims of hotel quarantine and bio-safe bubbles.
Riley Meredith, and Christianity, Moises Henriques, Mitchell Marsh, Adam Zampa, Andrew Tye and Josh Philippe are part of the side that tours Caribbean and Bangladesh, and all have an IPL agreement.
Marsh and Philippe chose to get out of the first stage of the IPL tournament held in India.
Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Lynn and Ben Cutting – Nothing in Australia’s plan or holding a country contract – – is another Australian with an IPL contract.
The Australian T20 side, who did not have a number of first choice players, suffered a 1-4 series defeat against West Indies and Bangladesh recently, and Ponting said the results underlined the lack of depth in Australia Cricket at this time.
The Australian side hit their T20i which was the lowest of 62 against Bangladesh in Dhaka a few days ago.
“…
Is it lack of confidence or lack of skills or lack of awareness in conditions.
Only a lack of knowledge and skills in that condition bring us cancel again.” Already heel Achilles for Australian cricket for as long as I can remember.
It’s just to show the depths around Australian cricket now is not the place needed.
“The T20 World Cup is not far (but) with everyone who is suitable and healthy in the UAE, I still think the Australian team can push it very hard to win our title that avoid us,” Ponting said.
