Karachi: Former captain Ramiz Raja will take over as the next chairman of the Pakistani cricket board (PCB), but not before September 13.
Commissioner of the Election of PCB, Justice (Retd) Sheikh Azmat Saeed said a special meeting of the Board of Governors on Monday in Lahore to elect the Chairperson of the 36th PCB.
This basically means that PCB will not have a chairman to replace Ehsan Mani until September 13 when the 10 council governors must choose from between two nominations delivered by the patron at the post.
On Friday morning, PCB Patron Prime Minister Imran Khan has nominated Asad Ali Khan and Ramiz to the swamp for a ten-year term while training his strength under the 12 (1) clause of the PCB constitution.
Five other swamp members are Aasim Wajid Jawad, Alia Zafar, Arif Saeed and Javed Kurieshi (all independent members) and Wasim Khan (Chief Executive PCB).
Ramiz and Asad’s nomination, a senior bureaucrat, followed the days of speculation on the appointment of PCB heads with Ramiz became a clear favorite to win the election because he had a meeting with PM and filed a blueprint for how he wanted to do the Pakistani cricket.
Ramiz was part of the 1992 World Cup winning squad which was shocked by Imran and took the final catch of the match to win the final.
