Mumbai: South African Umpire Allahudien Paleker has a good test debut in the second match that is ongoing against India in Wanderers in Johannesburg but very few will know that his family traces his origin to Ratnagiri in Maharashtra.
Palekar traces its roots to Shiv Village in Khed Tehsil from the Ratnagiri District.
Shiv Village ‘Sarpanch’ (Village Head) Durvesh Palangkar told PTI on Wednesday, “I am also a palekar.
He traces his roots to our Shiv Village.
His father then migrated to South Africa for work and then settled there.
Allahudien was born in Africa South, but the original village is Shiv, who is in Khed Tehsil.
“” The whole village, Gram Panchayat (local government agency) proud of him, that our names and villages have risen to the international level.
We are very happy, “Durvesh added.
Not only this but palekar, 44, has also been inaugurated in the Trophy Ranji match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai during the 2014/15 Indian domestic season.
Palekar has led in the Mumbai league versus Madhya Pradesh together with Indian Umpire Krishnamachari Srinivasan.
“He made a referee in the Ranji Trophy match and also stood in another Ranji match in India as part of the referee exchange program,” the referee of the Senior Cricket Association of Mumbai, who was also a carrier of the MCA office in the past, told PTI.
In the match drawn against Madhya Pradesh, Palangkar had witnessed centuries by Suryakumar Yadav (135) and Shreyas Iyer (142 did not come out).
Palekar is a former first-class player and comes from the referee’s family.
His father Jamalodien was the referee.
