Dhaka: Bangladesh on Thursday appointed former South African Batsman Ashwell Prince as a full-time batting consultant up to 2022 Twenty20 World Cup.
The Prince worked with Bangladesh in the same role during the series against Zimbabwe in July this year and seems to have impressed his employer, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Left hander 44 years old, limited to 119 times by South Africa in the three formats, not with the Bangladesh team in 4-1 Twenty20 international series they won over Australia at home.
“I really enjoyed my experience with the Bangladesh national team during what was clearly a very successful tour for the team in Zimbabwe,” Prince said.
“The cricket level played by Bangladesh and Zimbabwe is a very high standard.” Given an event at Zimbabwe, Prince said the team’s success against Australia was not a surprise.
“On the last night of the tour, the whole team had gathered on African campfires to do question and answer to what was clearly a very satisfying Zimbabwe tour, but also to plan a series of approaching Australia,” he said.
“I don’t think the results (against Australia) come as a surprise for anyone in the Bangladesh camp.
When I then offer the opportunity to join the team in full time, it’s not a brainer.” Bangladesh got the first series they won over Australia after winning three opening matches from the recent series.
In the last match, they reject Australia only for 62, their lowest T20 total.
Bangladesh will face New Zealand for five international twenty20 in the next series in September before 2021 World Cup Twenty20 to be played in Oman and UAE in October and November.
